THE DIALOGUE

A MOVEMENT BORN FROM AMBITION

Bringing together youth and adults from ethnically, demographically and socio-economically diverse backgrounds, THE DIALOGUE was developed in 2017 to ignite fair and insightful, solution-driven conversation around socially relevant topics.

THE DIALOGUE is about stripping away what we’ve been taught to think and feel in order to uncover our own feelings and our own truths. It’s about being proactive rather than reactive. It’s asking and listening to uncomfortable questions. It's a valuable lesson in understanding and self-discovery.

THE DIALOGUE creates a safe and supportive space where participants ask questions, share opinions and examine ‘why’ they feel the way they do about the topic at hand. They can dissect their reactions and discern if they actually feel that way, then decide for themselves what should and should not affect them. The moderated conversations include a select group of approximately 30 youth and adults from ethnically, demographically and socio-economically diverse backgrounds. Insights are shared and in keeping with AMBITION’s solution-driven methodology once takeaways are clarified,  action items are established.

THE DIALOGUE: Race and Racism Series (2017-present)

What do the terms White Privilege and Racism mean to you? What do these words bring up for you? How can we figure out strategies to tackle these institutions? If you had a question about Black, white, Latino, Muslim or Asian culture, would you be comfortable asking your Black, white, Latino, Muslim or Asian friends, or would that make you feel uncomfortable, as if it wouldn’t be appropriate? Why do we feel like asking questions is questioning? Why is it that when someone doesn’t agree with us, we respond by telling them they are wrong, instead of asking why they think or feel the way they do? Why do we “call someone out,” instead of taking the opportunity to “have a conversation?”

LET’S START A CONVERSATION! LET’S LEARN AND GROW TOGETHER.
Be prepared to be open, to listen, to learn and to make yourself uncomfortable!
